In Microsoft Dynamics 365 for consumer goods operations, companies often ship several types of orders from the same warehouse: parcels to smaller accounts, case-packs to distributors, and pallets to retail distribution centers. Those shipments don't all move the same way. Each may require a different carrier, mode, or rate.
That makes freight execution more complex than simply getting an order out the door. The ERP provides the order and item data, while freight execution determines how that shipment should move, from rating and carrier selection through booking, tracking, and invoice audit.
Dynamics 365 provides much of the data freight execution uses to rate and route a shipment, including the ship-to address, quantities, item weights, and customer shipping preferences. Weights come from the item record, while shipping preferences such as the default carrier and service come from the customer record and populate each new sales order.
Consumer goods item masters can carry the same product in several units of measure, such as eaches, cases, and pallets, each with its own weight. New records from product launches and packaging changes sometimes start with an estimated weight. Customer shipping defaults are set once per account and can be changed on an individual order.
How those inputs reach freight execution depends on which Dynamics 365 product the company runs.
Business Central and Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management (F&SCM) handle transportation differently. Business Central manages CPG freight through its sales and warehouse workflow, while F&SCM includes a transportation management module for planning inside the ERP. With either product, comparing live rates across carriers, booking the shipment, and auditing the carrier invoice can happen in a separate freight platform connected to Dynamics 365.

Freight execution matches each consumer goods order type to the appropriate mode and carrier, then books the shipment and returns the shipping details to the ERP. The work covers every mode the order mix calls for, from parcel and LTL to FTL, ocean, rail, and international air.
In CPG shipping, the order type sets most of the requirements:

Rate. Each shipment is compared across carriers and modes using its weight, destination, and service level, so a case-pack can be priced as parcel or LTL before it books.
Select and tender. The chosen carrier receives the tender. Routine shipments can be tendered by rule, so volume does not wait on someone booking each order by hand.
Consolidate. Compatible orders headed to the same region can be grouped into one truck, turning several distributor case-packs into a single planned load.
Write back. Once the shipment ships, the carrier and tracking details return to Dynamics 365, so order entry, customer service, and finance teams see them without leaving the ERP. The full data flow is covered in the guide to Dynamics 365 shipping integration.
When the carrier invoice arrives, freight audit compares it with the rate booked for the shipment and flags reweighs, reclassifications, and unquoted accessorials before payment. The data that determined the rate also determines whether the invoice matches it.
Weight is often where a mismatch starts. A consumer goods item can carry one weight on its main record and different weights for each unit of measure, and those values do not always stay in sync. If they drift apart, or a new item still carries an estimated weight, the shipment can be reweighed by the carrier and billed at a different amount. A weight change can also move the freight class, and the LTL rate with it.
Audit catches the difference before the invoice is paid, on inbound and outbound shipments alike. Correcting the weight on the item record in Dynamics 365 helps prevent the same discrepancy from carrying into the next order for that item.
FreightPOP runs consumer goods freight on Dynamics 365 from the ERP record to the paid carrier invoice, and it supports parcel, LTL, FTL, ocean, rail, and international air shipping. It rates through carrier integrations it owns, so quoted rates come without a third-party rate engine, broker, or hidden per-transaction cost. AI Auto-Dispatch tenders routine orders by rule, which drives a 95% reduction in shipment processing time based on FreightPOP customer data, and the AI Load Planning agent groups compatible orders into trucks. FreightPOP's freight audit catches invoice discrepancies before payment, delivering 8–15% savings through invoice auditing.
FreightPOP connects to Business Central through an AppSource connector and to F&SCM through the Data Management Framework or direct API. On Business Central, it works from outbound Posted Sales Shipments, and setup for a Business Central consumer goods brand sits with the partner. On F&SCM, it supports both inbound and outbound freight workflows.
For consumer goods brands, that means one platform for every order type, from the parcel to the retail pallet, working alongside Dynamics 365 rather than replacing any part of it. Order entry, customer service, and finance stay in the ERP, and the warehouse team ships from FreightPOP.
Based on FreightPOP customer data (individual results vary):

FreightPOP integrates with the Posted Sales Shipment in Business Central. It imports the ship-to address, line items, item weights, and default Shipping Agent and Shipping Agent Service from each posted shipment, then writes the carrier and tracking number back to the same record. Shipments import every 10 minutes, or immediately when searched by shipment number.
No. FreightPOP writes the Shipping Agent, Shipping Agent Service, and Tracking No. back to the Posted Sales Shipment. The defaults on the customer card stay as configured in Business Central.
No. AI Auto-Dispatch tenders shipments by rule, and the carrier and tracking number return to Dynamics 365 once each shipment ships. Order entry, customer service, and finance teams stay in the ERP, and the warehouse team handles shipping in FreightPOP.
No. FreightPOP owns its carrier integrations, so quoted rates come without a third-party rate engine, broker, or hidden per-transaction cost.
Not the same ones. Consumer goods freight turns on order mix and item data, with pallets, case-packs, and parcels rating from the same item master. Food and beverage freight adds shelf life, temperature control, and lot traceability, covered in the guide to Dynamics 365 for food and beverage freight.
Yes. FreightPOP connects to F&SCM through the Data Management Framework or direct API and supports both inbound and outbound freight workflows, so supplier shipments into the warehouse can be managed and audited alongside outbound orders.
